New Positions

There are a number of positions I am going to be posting today but first I want you to visit the Impinj Blog. There is new information and a few pictures you should see. Karina Miller has done a great job in bringing the Impinj Blog to life and I cannot tell you how many people now know about Karina and her team at Impinj because of her efforts.

It has been a busy week and there seems to be no sign of a slowdown anytime soon. I have spoken to quite a few recruiters in the last few days and I am amazed at how many companies are looking to hire Analog and Mixed Signal design engineers. Companies all over the United States are busy trying to find these engineers and woo them away from their current companies.

There is one suggestion I have for these companies and more importantly, the hiring managers at these companies who are tasked with finding and ultimately hiring these engineers. You need to be much more aggressive. More on that later.

Here are some positions:

1. IC Design Manager - Silicon Valley - Startup in the display market:

· Staffing, motivating, and leading a highly talented engineering team
· Working with product marketing team to determine product requirements
· Architectural ownership of this company's HDTV microdisplay product line
· Writing clear, unambiguous product and IC specifications
· Project schedule tracking
· Management of custom circuit design, digital IC design, and system verification teams
· Direct responsibility for RTL coding, simulation, and synthesis
· Contract negotiation with component, test equipment, foundry, and CAD tool vendors
· Working with patent counsel to create a strong IP portfolio
· Making frequent presentations to upper management, customers, and investors

2. Multiple classical Analog Design Engineers for a small company in Arizona.

3. Digital IC Architect/Systems for a startup company in Arizona. This person will also manage a small team of digital designers.

If you are interested in learning more about these opportunities, Please contact me

More to come shortly...

Broadcom to buy Zyray

Broadcom to buy Zyray for about $96 mln in stock

Media and communications chip maker Broadcom Corp said on Wednesday that it would buy Zyray Wireless Inc., which makes chips for mobile phones, for about $96 million worth of stock, or 2.23 million shares.

Irvine, California-based Broadcom also said it would cancel convertible notes of privately held Zyray which it previously bought for $3 million.

The deal is expected to close in the third quarter and Broadcom said it would take a charge of an undetermined amount at that time.

Zyray is a San Diego company that makes chips that enable new telecommunications technology, known as 3G, to be added to handsets and data terminals based on current technology. The companies said the chips will work with Broadcom's existing chips for handsets.

Cisco Pockets Procket

Cisco offered $89 million in cash for all the intellectual property portfolio, an unspecified number of designers on PRO/88xx project, and unspecified assets of Procket, believed to include finished PRO/8801 and PRO/8812 routers. Cisco notably did not acquire the corporate entity of Procket itself, and did not pick up any liabilities of the company.

AMD Is Smiling

Advanced Micro Device's head honcho, Hector de Jesus Ruiz, is smiling more these days.

After more than two brutal years of red ink, the Sunnyvale chipmaker is making money again. AMD, which has historically played second fiddle to its much larger rival, Intel Corp., is also in unfamiliar territory as the first to produce a next-generation 64-bit microprocessor for Windows-based PCs.

I work with a fantastic recruiter who has a very successful relationship with AMD. If you are interested in speaking with this recruiter about possible employment with AMD, please contact me.

Over the last few days, I have been speaking with a number of recruiters I do and have done business with over the last few years. Everyone agrees that hiring in the semiconductor industry is increasing. There are many positions in the following areas.

1. Lots of analog and mixed signal design positions in Texas, Seattle, Boston, Silicon Valley, San Diego and Irvine.

2. We are starting to see ASIC design needs picking up though not at the rate of Analog Design. I think in the next few months we will see many new positions for talented and experienced ASIC design engineers.

3. Digital Circuit design openings in Texas and San Diego and lots of them in Silicon Valley.

4. Microprocessor Architect positions in Silicon Valley, Austin Texas and Boston.

There is lots of hiring going on in Irvine California as well.

Please contact me for more information about these openings and I can put you in touch with the appropriate people should your background be a match.

There are many more and you can browse the blog for them.
